CD Review: Elton John Celebrates His "Diamond" Anniversary With New Greatest Hits Release

Legendary artist Elton John has had no less than eight greatest hits compilations released in the last 40-plus years. So, why would we need another one? Well, the reason being is that "Diamonds" is the most complete "greatest hits" collection to date, covering Elton John's entire career, from his first hit single "Your Song" right up until his latest 2016 album "Wonderful Crazy Night." This release is also a celebration of 50 years for Elton John in the music industry. Plus Elton had a hand in selecting the tracks and this new set which features over 50 songs on an exclusive 3CD deluxe set, the most of any Elton John greatest hits albums.

Universal Music, in association with Rocket Entertainment, will release "Diamonds" on November 10th in a number of different formats, including one, two and three CD sets along with vinyl and digital formats. The deluxe 3CD set features the same 34-tracks on the 2CD set, along with 3rd disc of 17-more tracks that were hand-picked by Elton as some of his personal favorites. The double-gatefold vinyl only features 21-tracks, while the single disc includes 17 of his biggest hits from this set.

This new release demonstrates how timeless his music still is, as songs like "Tiny Dancer," "Honky Cat," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Bennie And The Jets" help to define the sound of the seventies. He hit is pop stride in eighties with songs like "Blue Eyes," "Sad Songs (Say So Much)" and "Nikita." The Disney movie, "The Lion King" breathed new life into his music during the nineties as "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle Of Life" will live on forever in Disney legacy. Elton John released only five albums over the course of the last 20 years and a handful of songs from those releases round out this new "Diamonds" collection.
