CD Review: Shinyribs Deliver "Your Medicine" On Latest Release

Coming February 24th is the latest release from Shinyribs titled "I Got Your Medicine." This Austin-based band brings out the sounds of New Orleans on this latest twelve-song release. Lead by singer/songwriter/guitarist Kevin Russell, Shinyribs brings together a nine-piece band, which also includes Jimbo Mathus on guitar, as they create some of the most entertaining music you will hear in 2017.

The new album begins with the R&B/Soul delivery of "I Got Your Medicine" and the funky horns of "Don't Leave It A Lie," which should get your body grooving. Shineyribs flashes back with the retro-style cover of Ted Hawkins' "I Gave Up All I Have," then try their hand at the honky-tonk rock of "Trouble, Trouble." The blues come pouring in for "I Knew It All Along" as Russell's vocals fit the genre perfectly. Shinyribs sound right at home on the New Orleans flavor of Allen Toussaint's "A Certain Girl" and the original "Hands On Your Hips," which carries a Fats Domino vibe. The album finishes with the up-tempo romp of "Ambulance" and the exciting gospel/blues groove of "The Cross Is Boss."
