CD Review: Pharrell Williams Adds Pop Flavor To "Hidden Figures" Soundtrack

After the first of the new year, Fox 2000 Pictures will release one of the top movie contenders for an Academy Award. The comedy-drama "Hidden Figures" is about the African American physicist, space scientist, and mathematician, who calculated flight trajectories for the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the moon. On December 9th, Columbia Records released the soundtrack to the movie, lead by the musical chameleon, Pharrell Williams.

The new ten-song release begins with the modernized, sixties-style pop swing of "Runnin'" and the addictive dance rhythm of "Crave" as you find yourself letting loose to the song's beat. Singers Lalah Hathaway and Mary J. Blige lend their talents to the soundtrack as Pharrell is uncanny for bringing out the best of every performer. Pharrell Williams and Alicia Keys duet on the smooth R&B delivery of "Apple" and Janelle Monae is silky smooth with her lead vocals on "Isn't This The World." The album finishes with Kim Burrell mixing together her gospel tones with Pharrell's pop beats to create an amazing, modern pop masterpiece with "I See A Victory."
