CD Review: The Duo Of Arduini/Balich Deliver A New Album For The "Dawn Of Ages"

Two giants of the progressive heavy metal scene have teamed up for their debut album. Victor Arduini (Fates Warning) and Brian "Butch" Balich (Argus) are joining forces for "Dawn of Ages," which will be released on February 27, 2017 through Cruz Del Sur Music.

The new nine-song release begins with the ten-minute build-up of "The Fallen." The song begins with more intricacy in their performance than what fans may be used to, before the music picks up the tempo with heavy metal energy. They continue with the attack of "Forever Fade" and the classic heavy metal chords of "Into Exile" as it pushes toward the 12-minute mark.

Arduini/Balich slow the tempo down for the doom metal feel of "The Wraith," then begin their epic journey with the chugging guitars of "Beyond The Barricade." The album closes with three cover songs. First is a perfect copy of Uriah Heep's "Sunrise," next up is a dark version of the less popular Beau Brummels' song "Wold Of Velvet Fortune," before finishing with Black Sabbath's "After All/The Dead."
