CD Review: New Music From Indie-Artists One Way Ride, Float Like A Buffalo, When The Clock Strikes And Tim Houlihan

First from Denver, CO comes the latest release, "Put Me On," from blues rockers One Way Ride. Their new nine-song album begins with the up-tempo, southern, country-rock of "Devil Eyes" and the more blues infused guitar romp of "Lie To Me." They harmonize wonderfully on the harder edge blues of "Someday Soon" and showcase their softer side with the acoustics of "Man I Am," before closing with the nearly seven-minute extended version of the country-blues anthem "Waiting." It is the band's debut EP and features five tracks of up-tempo, spirited, jam-band rock, beginning with the funk-fueled, Red Hot Chili Peppers inspired "Smile For The Cameras." They keep the mood light with the upbeat rhythm of "Enjoy The Ride" as Float Like A Buffalo do their best at rhyming every verse. Next from Oklahoma comes the latest album "The Better Friends" from the punk/pop band When The Clock Strikes. Their new five song EP begins with the punk fury of "Too Many Cooks," as the get the energy flowing right from the opening chords of the song. The title song, "Better Friends (From A Distance)" appears twice on this release, first as the addictive post-punk, mainstream rocker and second as a pop anthem driven by electronic beats. They keep their edginess with the raw appeal of "Fair Weather" and the powerful delivery of "Redemption." This EP follows on the heels of their 2014 debut EP "Glow In The Dark." It begins with the guitar-driven energy of "Contact" as the band delliver the perfect sound for alternative rock radio, following on the heels of Green Day and Blink 182. They lock into an infections groove on "Turf," before heading into west coast alt-pop scene with "Surf." The album closes with the intense energy of "Lose My Head" as When The Clock Strikes have their finger on the pulse of modern alternative music. Singer/songwriter Tim Houlihan recently released his second album titled "Another Orion" back in September. The new ten-song release features a classic Americana/rock feel, similar to Jackson Browne and James Taylor. The harmonies on the opener "I Get Lonesome Too" are very warm and inviting as Tim's voice could capture an audience as big as an arena and as small as a coffeehouse. He picks the tempo up with the swinging rhythm of "Send Me Back To You" and delivers the Paul Simon comparable "Another Orion." His wonderful soulful delivery of "Some Kind Of Mystery" will have you falling in love with Tim's music. He closes his album with the more aggressive tone of "What's Gonna Happen To Me" and the country, two-step of "Is It Every Okay."
