CD Review: New Music From Underground Acts Nalani & Sarina And The Chubby Knuckle Choir

Identical twins Nalani & Sarina have been building a strong underground following with their brand of pop/rock music. The duo released their first full-length album last year and will be following that up with a new EP in June. They have a live show scheduled at The Bitter End in New York on March 25, which will introduce fans to their new music. Their 2014 album "Lessons Learned" features the twins along side established musicians such as Will Lee and Tom Malone from The Late Show With David Letterman and Tommy Mandel from Bryan Adams' band. The uptempo opener "Raw Sugar" and "Hung Up" have the girls mixing funk and pop into their rock based songs to give a more dance feel to their music. The breakout single "Balloons" showcases their talents for performing as Nalani & Sarina put their all into their performances. The twins will be performing live all along the East coast for the next few months, so try and catch them if they are in your area. From Texas comes the latest release from The Chubby Knuckle Choir entitled "Reveille." The band lays down it country roots, before mashing together rock, blues and Americana music to give their sound a raw, truthful sound. The new ten-song release begins with the steel guitar driven, up-tempo country blues-rocker "Water Or Gasoline," before shifting gears to a more pop sound with an island vibe, courtesy of the bongo-drum rhythm. The swamp blues of "Hungry Hollow Road" is where the band's sound and songwriting excels. The dark tale of "Undone" and the soul-infused "Treat Her Right" are proof that The Chubby Knuckle Choir are the real deal, ready to deliver the goods.
