CD Review: New Independent Music From Local Artist Mark Daniel And U.K. Artists Gaunt Story And Raveneye

U.K. rock trio, Raveneye, will be releasing their debut EP, "Breaking Out" on April 28th through Rook Recordings. After only a year together, Raveneye have already gathered rave reviews after their multiple appearances on the BBC. The new five-song album begins with the strong, heavy rock rhythm of the title-song "Breaking Out" as they combine a Seattle grunge vibe with a fresh Rival Sons-type power and energy. They incorporate a bluesy-rock feel into "Get It Started," which is sure to catch the attention of rock radio, while lead singer Oli Brown pulls off his best Chris Cornell impression in "Runaway." The album closes with the exciting fresh heaviness of "You Got It." From the U.K. comes the third album from the modern alternative British singer/songwriter Rob Ashworth, better known as Gaunt Story. The new eleven-song release entitled "Nothing Holds You Like A Song" starts with the gentle approach of "My Son, The Liar" as you concentrate on the song's storied lyrics. The music is soft and tender as in "Sea Of Life" as it just floats through your head, putting you at ease with its minimal instrumentation. His music does not stray from from this formula as "More Woman" is the most accessible to mainstream radio, before closing with the folk-stylings of "Dreams Of Man." Connecticut native Mark Daniel recently released his latest four-song EP entitled "Repair To New." He and drummer Mickey Curry collaborated on about 15 songs beginning in January of 2014. After a year in the studio together, the 15 songs were reduced down to these four, beginning with the southern soul/blues sound of "Vacant Beauty." Mark's voice has a John Fogerty quality to it in the opener as his sound carries an alternative, singer/songwriter feel as in "The Breakdown." The album closes with the acoustic, Neil Young-like tone of "Fall Behind" that just melts with goodness. To find out more about Mark Daniel, please visit his Facebook page at facebook.com.
