CD Review: James McMurtry Plays A "Complicated Game" With His Latest Release

Singer/songwriter James McMurtry returns, after a six year absence, with his first new album entitled "Complicated Game." This release has a tall order to follow, since his last two albums topped the Americana Music Charts. It will be released on February 15, 2015 through Complicated Game Records and was produced by CC Adrock (Florance + The Machine, Steve Earle) and Mike Napolitano (Ani DiFranco, Squirrel Nut Zippers).

The new twelve song release begins with the storied lyrics of "Copper Canteen" as McMurtry paints a picture of life in a small town with his words. He lays out his emotions with "You Got To Me," while the mainstream appeal of "Ain't Got A Place" will have you singing along to the chorus after only a couple listens. The album's first single "How'm I Gonna Find You Now" has a pulse as McMurtry rattles through the song's lyrics as if to list everything he notices at the moment he is writing the song. He opens up his emotions once again with "These Things I've Come To Know" explaining why his girl is special to him. The beautiful storied strumming of "Deaver's Crossing" showcases McMurtry's songwriting talents as you focus intensely on his music. The album closes with the lyrical masterpiece of "Long Island Sound" and the stark solo delivery of "Cutter." To find out more about James McMurtry and his new album "Complicated Game," please visit
