CD Review: Newest Americana Album Comes With All "The Whistles & The Bells"

It has been almost four years since singer/songwriter Bryan Simpson abandoned his former band Cadillac Sky during a tour, opening for Mumford & Sons. Now Simpson is looking to take on a new adventure with his latest musical endeavor, The Whistles & The Bells. The new self-titled album will arrive on March 4th, but the album's first single "Mercy Please" has already become a hit through RollingStone.com.

The album leads off with the single "Mercy Please," which finds Simpson all over the place, combining gentle acoustics with a reckless chorus that demands your attention. The band gets their rock groove going on "Transistor Resistor," incorporating pieces of Americana music amongst at raw, fierce backbeat. They hit the right mainstream vein with "Ghost Town" and could easily be mistaken for The Avett Bothers on "Canary Cage," before closing with the gentler folk side of "Last Night God Sang Me A Song."
