CD Review: 81-Year Old Leo Welch Summons The "Sabougla Voices" On His Debut Album

It's never too late to do what you love, just ask 81-year old Leo Welch who will be releasing his debut album "Sabougla Voices" on January 7th. The blues man from Bruce, MS missed his opportunity to make it as a musician earlier on in his life, but has saved all his life experiences to create a truly original and real gospel/blues album.

The ten song release has the Lord as Leo's main subject matter as in guitar-boogie shuffle of the opener "Praise His Name" and the back porch folk/blues of "Me And My Lord." Leo's voice sounds fresh and experienced at the same time as displayed in the southern acoustic blues of "Mother Loves Her Children." He'll get your foot stomping for "Praying Time" and "His Holy Name," before closing with the short acoustic reminder that "The Lord Will Make A Way."

Leo Welch has over a dozen dates lined up for the new year, beginning with his album's release party on January 3rd. To find out more about Welch's new album "Sabougla Voices," please visit
