The duo of vocalist Murray Hockridge and guitarist Dave Kilminster seems like the perfect match. One has to wonder why it took so long for these to combine forces and release an album, but finally that time has come. The new release entitled "Closer To Earth" features eleven cover songs that feature Hockridge's warm inviting voice and Kilminster's outstanding, innovative guitar playing.
The album starts out with the mellow tones of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" and Elton John's "Rocket Man," which allows Hockridge to flex his vocals cords. A missed opportunity with Radiohead's "Street Spirit" as they stick to the basic delivery that seemed like it could have been improved upon. They make up for it with Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl" and the touching rendition of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," which is definitely one of the highlights of the disc. The album closes with Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" as Kilminster's feels the most comfortable with, as he has performed this song hundreds of times along side Roger Waters as his guitarist.

Swedish progressive rock band The Flower Kings will be celebrating their 20th anniversary together as a band next year. To get the celebration started early, they released their 12th album "Desolation Rose" on October 29th.
The ten-song release starts out with the thirteen-minute epic "Tower ONE" that allows the band to bring you into their world as they perfectly capture the full feel of progressive rock. The Flower Kings get a little heavier with their sound on "Sleeping Bones," before taking on a more mainstream approach with "Desolation Road." A rawness is felt on the strong tones of powerful eight-minute song "The Resurrection Of Judas." The Flower Kings return to the heavier rock of "Last Carnivore," before closing the album with the mellowness of "Blood Of Eden" and the emotional screams and crashing sounds of "Silent Graveyards."
The Flower Kings have recently announced a few live dates including the Progressive Nation Cruise in 2014. For more information on the new album, please visit flowerkings.se.
