CD Review: John Mayer Finds "Paradise Valley" On New Release

Singer/songwriter/guitarist John Mayer has documented his maturity with each new album he releases. The mostly acoustic 2012 release "Born And Raised" seemed like a group of personal songs that he needed to get off his chest in order to take that next step in his music career. Now with the new release of his sixth studio album, "Paradise Valley," Mayer has finally achieved that sophisticated mellow rock that he was destined to produce.

The eleven-song album starts off with the clap-along pop/rock of "Wildfire" as his guitar playing finally gets even time with his smooth vocals. His acoustic letter of "Dear Marie" is his way of dealing with the internet mayhem that has surrounded his life in the past. He also writes a song about his ex-flame Taylor Swift with the album's lead-single "Paper Doll" as Mayer keeps his cool with showcasing a little blues guitar. He also invites a couple of guests to help out on his album as Mayer harmonizes with current girlfriend Katy Perry on "Who You Are" and allows Frank Ocean to take the lead on the 88-second version of "Wildfire." The album closes with the appropriate titled "On The Way Home," which is Mayer's new favorite place to be.

John Mayer is currently on tour, supporting his last two releases as vocal surgery derailed his last tour. His live dates run in mid-October, including a stop at the Rock In Rio Festival on September 21. For more information on his new album, "Paradise Valley," please visit johnmayer.com.
