CD Review: Hot Club Of Cowtown Find Their "Rhythm"

The trio of Elana James, Whit Smith and Jake Erwin are better known as the Hot Club of Cowtown and they recently released a new album of jazz and American songbook standards entitled "Rendezvous in Rhythm." They strip down and turn some of the oldest, most well known songs in American history into a simple, but effective trance.
The 14-song album begins with the gypsy, old-fashion jazz sounds of "Dark Eyes/ Ochi Chornye." They move on to one of the most well-known love songs, "I'm In the Mood For Love" with some warm, comforting vocals from Whit Smith. The tempo picks with "Crazy Rhythm" as Elana James gets into the vocal game. The band add their own little spin to the Irving Berlin classic "If I Had You," before spicing things up with "Minor Swing." Hot Club of Cowtown hop aboard the "Slow Boat To China" in which Elana's fiddle takes the lead. The album finishes up with a little bebop jazz of "Douce Ambiance."
Hot Club of Cowtown will begin their tour on June 6 in Nashville, TN before making their way north for a couple of shows in Connecticut in late-July. For more information on the band, please visit
