CD Review: Calvin Harris Fills "18 Months" With Hit Singles

From Scotland comes singer/songwriter/DJ/producer Calvin Harris with his new album “18 Months.” This album has been highly anticipated following the success of his gold and platinum selling singles “Let’s Go” and “Feel So Close,” respectively and his multi-platinum hit with Rihanna, “We Found Love.” The album was released on October 30 through Columbia Records in association with Fly Eye Records and Deconstruction. Over half of the fifteen songs feature guest appearance from the like of Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, Kelis and Ne-Yo amongst others.
The album begins with the introduction of “Green Valley” with the repetitive lyric of “Oh,” but quickly changes gears to the dance floor with “Bounce” featuring vocals by Kelis. We finally get Calvin’s vocals on the upbeat single, “Feel So Close,” which was his first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart reaching #12. The song that blew up on the chart is “We Found Love” with Rihanna’s smooth vocals leading the way which is also featured on her album “Talk That Talk.” Calvin Harris gets to show off his DJ skills on the instrumentals “Mansion” and “Awooga,” but it’s the songs with vocals like “Drinking From The Bottle” featuring Tinie Tempah that gives the album more substance. Harris closes with what could be considered for another single, the dance-floor, pop of “Thinking About You” featuring Ayah Marar.
