CD Review: The New Czars Bring "Doomsday" Upon Us

The members of The New Czars are not new to the music industry, they have performed alongside likes of Alice Cooper, Bruce Dickinson, Pink, Courtney Love and others. Now the trio of Greg Hampton, Paul Ill and David "Chilli" Moreno are ready to make a name for themselves on their debut release "Doomsday Revolution." The album will be released on September 14 on Samson Records.

The band is fully amerced in a classic rock, heavy metal sound. The guitar work on "Confessions" is nothing short of exceptional and "Don't Watch Me" is a pulse-pounding rocker. But the band expands their sound with the power ballad "Why Do U Have 2 Lie" and the keyboard driven "Only Dreaming." The song "Brush With The Devil" gets its energy from the drumming of Moreno while the instrumental "Abstract Prague" focuses on Hampton's guitar solo. The slow, heavy drum beat and bass on "Tell Me" reflect an Alice In Chains-type sound. With a CD full of great songs, the one odd track on the album is the song "Funky Detour." A keyboard, guitar fusion of funk with an electronic drumbeat just doesn't fit the sound this band is trying to portray.

"Doomsday Revolution" was produced by Greg Hampton and according to Hampton, the band "definitely have enough songs for another album." Check out the band's myspace page (www.myspace.com/thenewczars) for more information.
